Golam Murshed leads Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, the largest market-capitalized company in Bangladesh. Previously, he served as an Additional Managing Director of the company. He has held various leadership roles in the same company for over a decade. A Seasoned Chief Executive with verifiable year-after-year success in achieving revenue, profit, and business growth objectives within challenging, turnaround, and adaptive environments. Extensive experience with highly engineered systems, which require a deep understanding of critical business drivers in multiple markets and industries; highly successful in building relationships and maintaining communication with policymakers, seizing control of critically problematic areas, and delivering on customer commitments. Leading and motivating global teams comprised of more than 30,000 employees deployed in multiple countries and regions and successfully managed P&L for a business of about $ 1 billion in revenue with more than 5-billion-dollar market capitalization. Golam Murshed, an entrepreneurial and visionary young business leader, is the managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited.[1]

Started his career with Walton as a Research and Innovation Engineer in 2010, and become the Managing Director & CEO just within a decade. Golam Murshed, a young business leader, is the CEO and Managing Director of the country’s largest electrical and appliance company, Walton. His decade-long persistent success, concentration, and devotion led him to become the youngest CEO of the largest company. Under his prudent leadership, Walton becomes the second largest market-capitalized company with more than $5 billion in market capitalization in Bangladesh. Nonetheless, Company attained the highest-ever Revenue, Net profit, and NCF amid Covid-19 challenges under his leadership.

Before becoming the Additional Managing Director (AMD), Mr. Murshed served the company as CEO of the Refrigerator Business Unit. During his tenure as the CEO of the refrigerator business unit, the company secured more than 70% market share. Just a decade ago the refrigerator industry of Bangladesh was 100% import oriented. His persistent effort to pursue policymakers to craft and implement the manufacturing industry-friendly policy that ultimately changed the industrial landscape of Bangladesh-currently 98% of countries’ refrigerators are being manufactured locally.

Before the role of CEO of the Refrigerator business unit at Walton, Mr. Murshed was the Operative director and Business Coordinator to the board of the company. He embodies a very innate capability of forward-thinking considering the need for all stakeholders at the center of business transformation. During his tenure as business coordinator to the board, he led the acquisition of multiple production Plants for the Compressor[2], Refrigerator, and Air-Conditioner businesses from Austria, China, Vietnam, and Thailand. His pivotal role in those acquisitions yielded immensely- currently, Walton is the market leader in each category.

Year after joining Walton Mr. Mushed became Deputy Director and Production Line In charge in in 2011. During his tenure as production in charge, he was very instrumental in doubling the production without investing any extra resources.

Mr. Murshed is exceptionally open-minded and respects the identity and uniqueness of people, societies, communities, and countries hence relating to the heritage and diversity of different cultures. He is also very keen on Child health, the environment, women empowerment, and education for underprivileged communities.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES

As a conscious global citizen and a responsible CEO, Mr. Murshed planned all his personal and professional actions in alignment with his responsibility toward society, and sustainability, and undoubtedly considering the greater good. In continuation of it, he founded ‘The Swapner Bangladesh (SB) Foundation’, a voluntary, non-profitable, non-political, non-governmental, and charitable Foundation to deal with prevailing social challenges such as education for underprivileged children, promotion of historical and cultural things, health assistance to the population group devoid of it, create fitness awareness, vocational training for the unskilled community, and promotes sports and youth among others.

Aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of the United Nation and that of our government he launched the “Better Bangladesh Tomorrow (BBT)” initiative to ensure that the business he led is behaving responsibly and leaving a minimum footprint on the environment. From the very beginning of the BBT initiative, it has become so successful and influential that sustainability is currently intrinsic to the strategic operational plan. Continuation to his sustainable initiatives he introduced several programs namely PLANTEER, volunteer recruitment to spread sustainability literacy among students, FIVE for Female Involvement in Versatile Empowerment, ‘SOBAR UPAR MANUSH SHOTTO’ (Humanity above All ) initiatives for health and betterment of members of the company, Train And Recruit Specially Abled People, FDMN (Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals) TECH VALLY to provide skill training to the forcefully displaced Rohingya communities.
